- LANGHAM DEAD
The Life of a Well-Known Citizen Ended - Aged 63 Years.
There died on Thursday morning last, at 5.15 o'clock, at his residence, North Water street, Joseph Langham, aged 53 years and 3 months. The deceased, who was one of a family of seven, was the son of David Langham, a printer, of Nottingham, England. When a young man, he enlisted in the 17th Batt., Infantry, in which he served for twelve years. During the time or his enlistment, his regiment was stationed at Belfast, Ireland, but towards the close of the American war, the 17th Battalion was sent to Canada. The deceased obtained his discharge at the city of Brantford. Shortly after this he removed to Toronto, where he secured a position as fireman on the G.T.R. This continued to be the home of the family, until some 22 years ago, when the late Mr. Langham, severed his connection with the railroad and took up his residence in Galt, where he has lived ever since. Shortly after his removal to this town, he entered the employ of the Galt Axe factory, as a grinder. He continued to follow this calling, until a couple of years ago, when the condition of his health compelled him to give up his position. Although during the past two years he had been suffering from lung trouble, he was only confined to his bed for two or three weeks. All of the deceased's brothers and sisters, survive him and still live in their native shire in England. His parents, who have reached four score years and ten, are also residing at the old homestead in Nottingham. The deceased, having been a resident of the town for so many years, was highly respected and his death will be regretted by many. The sons and daughters who mourn the loss of a kind father are John, George, Maggie, Mary and Catherine. The remains were interred, in Mount View Cemetery, on Saturday afternoon, at 8 o'clock, the funeral taking place from the family residences, corner of North Water and Dayton streets.
