    • Funeral planned for Niagara toddler who drowned in Kitchener pool

A funeral for a Niagara toddler who died in a Kitchener pool is being planned for St. Catharines. Ryland Swaye, 2, died Thursday in a suburban neighbourhood in Kitchener's west end, according to reports by the The Record. The boy 's grandfather, Neil Swayze, of Kitchener, said Rylan and his younger brother were visiting him when the toddler slipped into the backyard pool unnoticed and drowned, the newspaper said.

A post mortem examination was scheduled in Hamilton on Friday, but no results have yet been released. Waterloo Regional Police spokesman Olaf Heinzel called it "a tragic accident" and police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances. The investigation will not be complete until the results of the autopsy are in. Police have not yet released what city he is from in the Niagara region.
Police are reminding residents that as the summer season approaches, they should be vigilant regarding water safety around the home, cottage as well as area beaches.
