      North Dumfries resident, Mary Catherine Shantz died at Golden Years Nursing Home, Cambridge on Friday, January 14, 2005. She was in her 90th year.

      Born in Preston, the daughter of Anna (Joblanska) and George Klapkew, Mary was a member of Preston Mennonite Church and was an avid knitter and enjoyed many crafts.

      Mrs. Shantz was predeceased by her husband John George Shantz in November 2004 and by an infant sister.

      Mary will be dearly remembered by her son Douglas Shantz and his wife Mary Beth of RR 1, Ayr; her daughter Teri and her husband Ernie Haynes of Kitchener; her four grandchildren Jason, Rebecca (Rick), Alan and Darryl; her five great-grandchildren William (13.J.), Douglas, Zoey, Abby and Sierra; her sister Ann and her husband Jim Myckan of Cambridge; her sisters-in-law Ella Luckhart, Marion and her husband Ron Linesman, Doris and her husband Howard Weicker, Yvonne Shantz all of New Hamburg, Marjorie Shantz of RR 1, Ayr and Carol Klapkew of Burlington; and her many nieces and nephews.

      Pastor Claire Osinkosky of Preston Mennonite Church conducted a memorial funeral service at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 18 at 3: 00 p.m.

      Cremation will be followed by interment in Roseville Mennonite Cemetery.
