Notes |
- Charles J. Bruder, 52, Popular Figure; Was Born in New Germany
Charles J. Bruder, 52, proprietor of the Windsor Hotel and a widely known hotelman, died at his Queen Street North home today after a three-day illness. He had not been in the best of health for the last year.
Mr. Bruder came to this city from New Germany, where he was born June 12, 1888, starting his career as a hotelman shortly after coming here. He was employed for many years on the staff of the American Hotel under the proprietorship of the late William Witt.
MODERNIZED BUILDING
About 15 years ago he purchased the Windsor Hotel building and has operated the business since that time. Throughout his tenure he made many improvements to the building and in recent years completely modernized the establishment.
Keenly interested in sports and also in public affairs he was a popular figure in the Twin City, making ? friends to whom announcement of his sudden death will come as a shock.
He was particularly well-known in the city and in many sections of the province as organizer of Charlie Bruder's Band, a musical organization which he outfitted and whose services he frequently placed at the disposal of local organizations for picnics and other gatherings.
FUNERAL NOT SET
He was a member of the Hotelmen's Association and was identified with a number of fraternal organizations including the L.O.O.M. the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Knights of Columbus, of which he was a fourth degree member. He was also a member of St. Mary's Church and the Holy Name Society.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed. The remains are resting until tomorrow afternoon at the Fedy-Walsh Funeral Home, when they will be removed to his residence.
