- BEISEL, Stanley - Stanley Royal Beisel, age 82, passed away peacefully at Hillside Manor, RR 5 Stratford on Monday, December 26, 2005.
Stan was born on the Beisel farm, Woolwich Twp. Near Elmira, son of the late Theodore Beisel and the former Sarah Ann Bolender. In 1951 Stan married the former Mildred Mohr and she predeceased him in 1985 as did his sister, Beatrice in 1985 and an infant daughter in 1954. Stan is survived by one son, John Beisel and his wife Carolyn of Owen Sound and three grandchildren, Peter, David and Kathryn. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mona (Mohr) Robinson and two nieces, Joy and Gloria of Toronto.
In 1987 Stan married Ruth (Moore) Diegel who survives him along with Ruth's mother Florence Moore and Ruth's children Murray, Faye, Nancy Janet and Linda. Stan is also remembered by Ruth's grandchildren and a multitude of friends.
Stan attended public school at SS #4 Woolwich and Elmira High School. In 1946 he graduated from the Stratford Normal School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree by extra-mural study from the University of Western Ontario, London and a Master of Education from University of Toronto. Following his graduation from Teacher's College he taught at Floradale, St. Jacobs and Kitchener schools. He was a Master at Stratford Teachers College from 1960 to 1973 and the Ontario Teacher Education College, Toronto from 1974 to 1980 specializing in Methods of Teaching. He retired in 1980.
In his early years Stan was an active member of the Evangelical and later Evangelical United Brethren Churches. He was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He served as choir leader and Mildred as organist at Zion Church, Elmira. He was instrumental in the development of two camp sites at Golden Lake and Silver Lake. In Stratford Stan was active in both Kiwanis Clubs and had attended Elgin Missionary Church and Central United Church. Stan had grown up in Mennonite country and possessed extensive knowledge of their history and customs. His interest in rural life conservation was evident in his continuing love for his small rural property in the hills of North Easthope Township. Stan also loved his 1930 Model "A" Ford. Stan loved to sing and was for a time a member of the Schneider Male Chorus, Kitchener, the Festival City Barber Shoppers, the St. Andrew's Male Chorus and the Kiwanis Golden Oldies.
Family will receive friends at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford n Thursday, December 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 am Rev. Ken Wideman and Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa will officiate. Interment in Elmira Union Cemetery.
