Notes - Archibald Geikie, member of Hampden West Association, of Canaan, Conn., without charge. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 7, 1797 ; son of Archibald and Helen (Bayne) Geikie. Educated in Edinburgh, and studied divinity under Dr. Chalmers. Was engaged in mission work and preaching until 1843, when he removed to Canada. He settled in Mooretown, where, from his private means he built a church edifice, and presented it to the congregation. Here he was ordained, as pastor, March 4, 1846. In the spring of 1849, on the death of his wife, he removed to Toronto, became pastor of the Second church there, and remained such for several years. In 1854, he became acting pastor at Colebrook, Conn., remaining until 1863. Acting pastor at East Granville, Mass., 1863 to 1864, pastor August 25, 1864, to September 29, 1869. Removed then to Canaan, Conn., and resided there, with his daughter Mrs. George Adam, until his death there, July 27, 1872.
