- FREY, Mary 'Marie' - Of Medicine Hat, passed away, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at the age of 102 years.
Beloved wife of the late Rev. Amsey Frey. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Grayce (Dr. Lee) Nash of Dundee, Oregon and Jean (Rev. Bill) Cox of Medicine Hat; five grand children, Murray Nash of Talkeetna, Alaska, LeAnn (Ken) Beebe of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, Dr. Torrey (Kimberly) Nash of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brenton (Sylvia) Cox of Calgary and Meredith (Lorne) Knodel of Medicine Hat; ten great-grandchildren, Dawson, Christopher and Denver Knodel, Trevor, Tanner and Tucker Nash, Mark and Grayce Beebe, Jillian and Natalie Cox; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, David and Susannah Thaler; her husband, Rev. Amsey Frey on December 31, 1973; six brothers, Simon, Elmer, Albert, Lincoln, Harry, Hubert and James; three sisters, Ella, Verna and Alice.
Mary "Marie" was born on October 8, 1895 in Centreville, Ontario. She was raised in Kitchener area and began working in a button factory, later at Kresge's and then in a rubber factory where she made footwear during the First World War. On March 15, 1922 she married Amsey Frey in Kitchener and that same year they moved west to a homestead at Acadia Valley. Her husband Amsey became a minister and they served various churches in Alberta, retiring to Didsbury in 1962. In 1986 she moved to Medicine Hat to the Haven of Rest and in November of 1996 to Sunnyside Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be held at the Didsbury Zion Evangelical Missionary Church on Monday, March 2, 1998 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bill Cox and Rev. Willard Swain.) co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Didsbury Cemetery.
