REGION COUNCILLOR IRVIN BRUBACHER DIES AT AGE 57

Breslau --Irvin Brubacher, a Waterloo regional and Woolwich township councillor for the past 3 1/2 years died Monday of a heart attack, he was 57. Brubacher a Breslau area farmer who was acclaimed to his second term of office in 1978, served on a number of committees at both levels. He was also a member of the Waterloo-Wellington Airport commission and active in area recreation. Brubaker was found on the floor of his barn Monday afternoon and taken to Cambridge Memoral Hospital. He was pronounced dead and an autopsy was performed. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Breslau Mennonite Church and burial will be at Bloomingdale cemetery. Edward R. Good funeral home in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements. Brubacher is survived by his wife Helen, four daughters, five grandchildren, his mother, two brothers and two sisters. He was predeceased by one son. "He will certainly be missed on council." Woolwich Township Mayor Ken Seiling said Monday. Seiling said Brubacher's Ward 3 - which includes Breslau, Bloomingdale and Maryhill areas of the township - will either be represented by someone appointed by council or will remain without representation until the November municipal election, since there are only about three months remaining in Brubacher's two year term. Seiling said council will consider its options when it meets next week. But Seiling said Brubacher's regional seat "will be filled immediately" Regional solicitor Elmer Moore said that while Township council has the option of not selecting a replacement this late in the term, a regional council seat cannot remain vacant. Traditional, Woolwich has selected one member from each of its three wards to serve on region council. "but it is in council's power to send anyone. It isnot bound to send someone from ward 3, but it has been a tradition," said Seiling, who reprsents Ward 1. Howard Ziegler, a former township mayer, represents Ward 2 and is the township's other regional councillor. Brubacher was vice-chairman of two regional committees, health and social services and personnel. He also served as the township's finance committee chairman and a member of the township recreation committee. Born in Elmira and a lifetime resident of the Township, Brubacher was a charter member and past president of the Bridgeport Lions club. He was also active in a number of farm organizations.
