Notes |
- Mrs. Chas. Lorenz
The funeral of the late Mrs. Chas. Lorenz, who passed away at her home in Kincardine on Monday took place this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bock, 37 Foundry st., Waterloo to the St. Paul's Lutheran church in Kitchener where Rev. Albert Orzen conducted the services. Short services were also held at the house. The death of the late Mrs. Lorenz, who was formerly a resident of this city, occurred after four days illness, following a surgical operation. The funeral was largely attended by friends and relatives showing the high esteem in which she was held by those who knew her. She is survived by her sorrowing husband, a 12 year old daughter, Marguerite, and her bereaved parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bock of Waterloo. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are Fred Bock of Waterloo, Henry Bock of Toronto, and Mrs. Chas Graber, Ahrens st., Kitchener and Mrs. Herman Hertel of Freeport. Internment was made at Mount Hope cemetery.

Alma Bock, later Alma Lorenz, was my great-grandmother. The obituary says she died 4 days after surgery but the back story is fascinating and tragic.
Alma lived in Kincardine with my great grandfather Charles Lorenz. She also played ice hockey on the Kincardine women's hockey team of 1926-7.
In 1927 she suffered a serious head injury playing hockey. I do not know exactly how long prior to getting surgery it was, but her surgery and death were from the effect of this head injury.
