Notes |
- It becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of one of our old residents, of whom we have quite a number that have passed the three score and ten. Death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shelley and took from it the latter's mother, Mrs. Seefeldt, on Sunday morning. The deceased had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach for many months, but only last week did it show its effects to such an extent that she had to take to her bed. She bore all her suffering during her long illness with Christian fortitude.
Deceased (nee Wilhelmina Joecks) was born in Jacobsburg, Germany, in April 6th, 1836, where she spent the best part of her life. In 1857 she married the late Karl Seefeldt who predeceased her by 7 ½ years. In 1836 they came to America with their family and lived for many years in St. Jacobs, from where they moved here. The lived on the farm now owned by Mr. Shelley, later …?... removed to St. Jacobs then back to this place again, when, as stated above, on Aug. 8th, 1907 the late Mr. Seefeldt died after which deceased lived with her two daughters here and at Berlin. The deceased left to mourn her loss 1 son Charles lately of Alberta, and 2 daughters, Christina, (Mrs. Sam Shelly) here and Mary, (Mrs. Fred Kraatz) of near Petersburg, also a number of grandchildren. Several sons and daughters have also predeceased their mother in late years. Deceased had reached the ripe old age of 78 years 11 months and 1 day. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Sam Shelley to St. Jacobs Evangelical church and cemetery for service and burial. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the community in their loss.
