Notes |
- Death of Mrs. Henry Manson - Regret was experienced b a wide circle of friends in this locality on Sunday morning, when it became known that Mrs. Henry Manson, one of the most beloved and respected citizens of North Dumfries had passed away late Saturday evening. Deceased had only been ill for a short period and, although in her 81st year, she was still active and her demise was unexpected. Born in Scotland, Mrs. Manson came to America with her parents when less than a year old. After living in the United States for seven years, the family moved to Canada and located on the old homestead to the south-east of Ayr now occupied by her brother, John Findlater. On her marriage to the late Henry Manson, who predeceased her 12 years ago, she removed to her late residence, lot 23, concession 7, North Dumfries, where she lived until her death. Mrs. Manson was one of the oldest members of Stanley Street Presbyterian Church and always took an active part in church work. She was of a kindly and moving disposition and, as one of the pioneers of the district, exerted a large influence on the growing generation, which helped to make the Township of North Dumfries one of the most substantial and progressive in Ontario today. There survive her one daughter and four sons: Miss Bessie, at home; William, in Missouri; Robert, in Nebraska; Lyon, in California and Joh, at home. She is also survived by two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Pipe, of California; Mrs. John Renwick, of Clifford; William of Belmore; Alexander, of Wingham and John, on the homestead. The funeral, which took place Tuesday afternoon to Ayr cemetery was very largely attended, many friends and relatives from a distance being present of tender their last respects. Among the relatives present were: William Manson, Missouri; Robert Manson, Nebraska; Mrs. John Renwick, Clifford; Wm. Findlater, Belmore; Alex, Findlater, Wingham. The services were in charge of Rev. Mr. Pettigrew of Glenmorris and Rev. W. M. Grant of Ayr. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Wm. Guthrie, Henry Guthrie, Robt. Cochrane, James Hall, Robt. Morton and A. G. Watson.
