  • Notes
    • John A. Manson Passes In His 95th Year - Ayr's oldest resident, John A. Manson, passed away in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt, on Friday evening, after a very brief illness. He was 94. Mr. Manson, who would have been 95 in April, was a lifelong resident of Ayr and district. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Manson, he was born on the family homestead, now the George Gillespie farm, just south of Ayr. Mr. Manson's parents cleared the land and in 1932, the family celebrated the 100th anniversary of the farm. Mr. Manson married the former Ethel Anderson, and the couple farmed the land until moving to Ayr 25 years ago. Mrs. Manson's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of Ayr. Mr. Anderson operated a blacksmith business in the village from the present Ayr Auto Body building, which he built. He also built the house on the corner of Stanley and St. Andrews Streets where the Manson's lived. Mr. Manson was a director of the Ayr Cemetery Company since 1933 and the president since 1944. He was a member of the former Stanley Street Presbyterian Church in Ayr. As well as being predeceased by his wife, his sister and only other relative, Miss Bessie Manson, passed away several years ago. Funeral service was conducted from the Manson home by Rev. Dr. David Gowdy of Central Presbyterian Church, Galt, on Monday afternoon. Interment followed in the Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Gillespie, Hugh Gillespie, Cameron Edgar, Robert Lovett and G. S. Dalrymple, all of Ayr and district, and Robert Anderson, Toronto.
