      ___________________

Passing of Mrs. John Gemmell - Mrs. Gemmell had been in failing health for several years from heart trouble, and had been confined to bed since the middle of July. Her cheerfulness and contentment during her illness ? we had the privilege of visiting her. The end came suddenly, after less than 5 minutes intense pain, at a quarter past one o'clock on Thursday morning. She was born in Fergus in 1861 and spent most of her life until her marriage, in Egremont Township, Grey County. Since her marriage to Mr. Gemmell in 1891, she had lived on the farm on Lot 30, Concession 8, North Dumfries, until six years ago when the family removed to Ayr. Mrs. Gemmell was a real home-maker, looking well to the ways of her household, and her kindly neighborliness will be long remembered by many. She took a deep, intelligent interest in all affairs of Church and State, especially in all that concerned the uplift of humanity in any way. Her wide interests and keen sense of humour made her a most interesting companion to her many friends. She was a loyal member of Knox United Church, and for nine years was president of the Women Missionary Society. From the age of ?sixteen, wherever her home was, she had a Sunday School class. For some time she taught advanced scholars in the Knox Sunday school and for many years was Bible Class teacher in the Reidsville Sunday school. She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother and sister: her husband, two sons, David, on the homestead; and John, on the staff of the Bank of Commerce in Windsor; two daughters, Mrs. James Welsh, near Ayr; and Jessie, at home; also three brothers and a sister, James, Peter and Belle Lothian of Dromore, Grey County; and Walter Lothian of Edmonton. …..? afternoon, Oct. 24th, to Ayr Cemetery, and was conducted by her pastor Rev. J. W. Currie. The pallbearers were as follows: Messrs. A. P. Hampel, John Q. Reid, Walter Clark, Thomas Guthrie, Robert Morton and Adam Douglas.
