- Death of Miss Jessie Gemmell
Miss Jessie Grieg Gemmell, 55, well-known resident of this village, passed away suddenly at her home on Hall street on Sunday afternoon. Miss Gemmell was born on the old Gemmell homestead, about one and a half miles north of the village, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gemmell. Earlier in life, she taught school for a number of years in widely separated parts of the province, where she received commendation for her ability as a teacher. Apart from her teaching years, she was a lifelong resident here and took great interest in local social affairs. She was an active member of Knox United Church and a member of the Woman's Missionary Society. Miss Gemmell was president of the Ayr Ladies' Lawn Bowling Club. One sister, Mrs. James Welsh, survives. The funeral service was held this (Wednesday) afternoon at her late residence, Hall street, interment being made in the Ayr Cemetery.
