    • Shuh, Jeanne Bernice Kropf March 5, 1921 - August 1, 2014

Our beloved mother died in peace at Hospice Wellington in Guelph on Friday, August 1. She was born in Kitchener in 1921 to Henry Kropf and Mynetta Gies Kropf and lived in Kitchener or Waterloo until the last four months of her life. She was the first of four beautiful sisters who maintained an exceptionally close bond throughout their entire lives. She attended King Edward School and Kitchener Collegiate Institute and worked in the office of the Dominion Tire Company. In 1945, she married Donald Shuh and moved just beyond the Waterloo city limits to Wavertree Farm on King Street North. There they raised a family of seven children and operated the Shuh family farm until it was sold for development by Lincoln Village. It is presently the site of the Conestoga Mall. Jeanne and Donald moved to Viewmont Close in Kitchener in 1972 and enjoyed 20 years together before his death in 1991. During those years, they travelled as his health would permit and established a summer base at The Old Homestead in Bayfield where their great grandchildren still spend some of their happiest moments. Although life brought many challenges Jeanne's way, she embraced every day with unfailing optimism. Her long kitchen table at the farm was legendary, not only for its food but for the warm welcome that awaited anyone who came to the door around meal times. She was a faithful member and tireless worker at Emmanuel United Church. She was a knitter, a quilter, a reader, a fan of the Blue Jays and a lover of fine music. She and Donald bought a series subscription to the K-W Symphony the year the Centre in the Square opened and she continued to attend until her health began to fail in 2013. In 1992, she began to spend three weeks each summer at the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound and attended nearly every concert until 2012. She was passionate about education and made sure that each of her children attended college, advanced training or university. She was proud of the successful careers that each of the seven of us built for ourselves. One of her last joys was her oldest great-granddaughter's acceptance to the University of Waterloo. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Donald Shuh, her sisters Elaine Struke and Adele Perrott, a brother at birth and her cherished eldest granddaughter Heather Boyd. She is survived by her children Margaret and Bill Boyd, Richard Shuh and Linda Woolley, Linda and Robert Boyd, Karen Couchie, Allan Shuh and Donna Campbell, Larry Shuh and Corinna Ritter Shuh, and Elizabeth and Brian Feil; her grandchildren Ruth Boyd and Jim Dryden, Sarah Boyd and Eric Moreau, Jalna Boyd and her friend Chris, Carolyn Boyd and Derek Payne, Laura Jeanne and Gary Reid, Sandra and Greg Correll, Matthew and Amber Fitzgerald, Philip Shuh and Beth Payette, Amy Shuh and Adrian Murray, Cameron Feil and Alicia Grist, and Rachel Feil; her great-grandchildren Megan, Emily, Samuel, Sadie, Anna, Jacob, Sophie, Daxon, Clara, Jonah, Audrey, Mackenzie and Tyler. She will be sadly missed by her sister Kathryn Frank, her brother-in-law Robert Perrott, many nieces and nephews, friends new and old and a huge extended family of those she took under her wing when they needed someone special. The family extends most sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington for the care provided to Jeanne and to all of us through the challenges and joys of her last four months. You are truly angels. The visitation with the family will take place at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home at 171 King Street South, Waterloo, from 2: 00 to 4: 00 p.m. and 7: 00 to 9: 00 p.m. on Friday, August 29. The memorial service of thanksgiving for the life and faith of Jeanne Bernice Shuh will take place at Emmanuel United Church, 22 Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo at 2: 00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Sweet officiating. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Waterloo, followed by a reception at the church hall. Condolences for the family and in lieu of flowers donations to Hospice Wellington may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
