Notes |
- Demise of Mrs. John Edgar
Another pioneer in the person of Mrs. John Edgar passed to the great beyond early Monday morning, at the ripe age of 79 years and some months. The deceased had been in failing health for some time but was not considered seriously ill until about a week ago. She was born in Selkirk, Scotland, in the year 1833, her maiden name being Agnes Anderson, and came to Canada with her parents while still in her childhood, settling on the farm now occupied by Mr. Geo. Smye. Here, in the year 1857, she was united in marriage with the late John Edgar and moved to a farm near Reidsville, where she continued to reside for about 45 years, coming to Ayr some ten years ago. Her husband predeceased her 17 years. A son and two daughters survive. They are James at Wroxeter, Mrs. W. A. Reid, Ayr, and Aggie at home. Mrs. Edgar was a consistent member of Knox church, and was widely known and esteemed. She is the last of her family, a brother, Mr. Walter Anderson, having passed away about a year ago. The funeral, which took place from her late residence, Elliott St., yesterday afternoon, was largely attended, interment being made in the Ayr cemetery. Revs. Grant and Ellison conducted the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. James Anderson (Windsor), Cameron Marshall, Alex Edgar, Allan Edgar, Geo. D. Black and James Edgar.
