  • Notes
    • MORRISON, JOHN S. (H?) was born in Scotland, and was a graduate of the University of Dublin. According to the Canada Gazette, he received his licence to practice on April 4, 1851, at which time he was located at Dundas. In April 1852 his card appeared in the Galt Reporteri

DR. MORRISON HAS COMMENCED PRACTICE IN AYR and may be consulted at the Union Hotel.

According to a 1870 directory, and the 1871 census, he was in New Hamburg, but had been in Plattsville. His obituary describes his movements,

Ayr Correspondent, Dumfries Reformer Wednesday June 2, 1875.

Dr. Jno. H. Morrison who has been for this last year a resident of Ayr, died suddenly on Friday at his mother's residence. He had gone to Plattsville to see some patients a few days before and was seized with congestion of the lungs. He was conveyed to Ayr and for two or three days was very ill. On Friday afternoon the Doctor became much excited and arose from his bed to go down to the office, and there being only two females in the house, one of which was his aged mother - they were unable to prevent him, he only reached Mr. Scott's corner when he fell and being carried home he expired in a few minutes. Dr. Morrison came to Ayr many years ago and was a successful and very intelligent practitioner and had he only kept from that awful bane of society he would have been at the head of the profession in this part of the province. He was considerably addicted to drinking previous to leaving Ayr, but became much worse after going to Plattsville, where he remained for a number of years, only returning to Ayr a year or so ago.

He was about 53 years of age at the time of his death, and was survived by his mother.
