Notes |
- Passing of Mrs. Cameron Marshall
Following a stroke which she sustained on May 17th, the death occurred in Galt Hospital on Thursday, May 25th of Mary Isabella Deans, widow of Cameron Marshall, aged 85 years.
It will be remembered that Mrs. Marshall was guest of honour at a family gathering held at the home of her son, Gordon Marshall, and Mrs. Marshall on Mother's Day, May 14th, which was also the occasion of her 85th birthday.
Mrs. Marshall was born on the Deans homestead, Highway No. 97, now owned by Fred Stager. After her marriage to Cameron Marshall June 5, 1889, they resided on the farm on the Reidsville road now owned by Gordon Marshall. Mrs. Marshall came to Ayr to reside 11 years ago.
She was a member of the former Stanley Street Presbyterian Church and, after the union, of Knox United Church. In her younger days, she was active in the work of the different women's organizations of the congregation.
Of a kindly, cheerful disposition, Mrs. Marshall was esteemed by a host of friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons: Anderson and Gordon of North Dumfries township; one daughter, Mrs. Leslie McDonald, near Drumbo; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. James Henderson and Miss Edith Deans, Ayr, and two brothers: James Deans, Ayr and Kirk Deans, Waterloo. Her husband predeceased her in 1917, while a daughter, Mrs. Rufus Davidson, passed away about three years ago.
The Funeral
The funeral, which took place from the residence of her son, Gordon Marshall, Concession 9, North Dumfries, on Saturday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery, was largely attended. The service was conducted by Rev. Donald Goodger, and the beautiful selection, "Take Time to be Holy", was sung by Mrs. J. P. Ritchie and Mrs. J. M. Hunt, with Mrs. Norman R. Morton as accompanist.
Many lovely floral tributes bore silent testimony to the esteem in which Mrs. Marshall was held.
The flower-bearers were four grandsons: Howard Marshall, Ross Marshall, Cameron Marshall and Cameron Davidson.
Acting as pallbearers were: Wm. G. Edgar, George Snyder, Andrew C. Hall, James Rutherford, Thomas Ritchie and William Williamson.
