Passing of Douglas Lillico - We are called upon this week to chronicle the death of one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Blenheim, in the person of Mr. Douglas Lillico, which event took place on Thursday evening, Sept. 15, at his residence, "Glenroyal." The deceased, who died within a mile of where he was born, was in his 64th year. He had been ill for over a year, but the end came rather unexpectedly, and a wide circle of relatives and friends deeply regret his demise. The late Mr. Lillico was a man of many excellent parts, and was esteemed as a neighborly neighbor and a good citizen. In politics he was a staunch and active Reformer, and in religion a Presbyterian, being an elder in Knox church, Ayr. In municipal affairs he was also in the foreground having been in the counsel halls of his native township for several years and a few years ago was reeve for two successive terms. Deceased was the eldest son of the late Alexander and Catherine Lillico, who were among the pioneers of the Blenheim district. About 32 years ago he married Catherine, second daughter of the late John Douglas of Ayr, who survives, together with five children, three sons and two daughters. They are Alexander, at home; John Wm., on the old homestead; Annie and Catherine, at home, and Robert on the G.T.P. survey staff near Prince Rupert. Two brothers and two sisters also survive, namely, James, John Hugh, and Mrs. Wm. Barrie, Blenheim, and Miss Mary Lillico, London. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended, interment being made in the Ayr cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. John Thomson, who had been deceased's pastor for a period of nearly 40 years. The pallbearers were Messrs. David Brown, John Welch, Robert Laurie, John Orr, James Malone and Murdo Lillico.
