      PIONNEER RESIDENT 52 YEARS

Levi Bowman Succumbs Following A Long Peroid of Decline At Age Of Eighty-Five Years In the death of Levi Bowman, this community looses one of it staunch pioneers. Kidney trouble of long standing gradually undermined the rugged constitution and a serious heart afflction developed and a trained nurse was placed in charge, Sunday, death occuring Wednesday night. A jovial dispostion which remained with him to the end made a congential companion for young as well as old and many friends now sympathize with the bereft family. For fifty-two years he was a citizen of this section, residing on his late premises of 160 acres, purchased of Abner Thomas in 1860. He was born in Ontario, Nov 23 1832, and died Jan 30 1918, aged 85 years, two months and seven days. His marriage to Susanna Cress occurred in 1861. To this union were born two children, Martha, who died at the age of five years, and Mrs Wellington Bergy, residing on the old homestead. Aside from the widow and one daughter, four grandchildren also survive, Mrs Fred Alberts, Eugene, Floyd, and Walter Bergy, with one great granddaughter. A brother also remains in California. Funeral services were held from the residence, Saturday afternoon, Rev Wesbrook officiating and Mrs. W. J. Robertson rendering vocal selections. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery. Mrs. Gretzinger and Miss Myrtle Cress of Grand Rapids attended the funeral services from a distance.
