  Death of an Old Resident We are this week called upon to record the death of an old and well known resident of this town in the person of Mr. Charles Hambly, who passed away on Thursday evening of last week, in the 72nd year of his age. The deceased, who was a native of Devonshire, England, came to Canada in 1843, first settling in Preston. Through the influence of the last Issac Sours - who was in those early days the leader of the Methodist body in this part of the country, and whose chapel still stands on South water Street opposite the residence of Mr. Sparrow - Mr. Hambly shortly removed to Galt, where he continued to reside up to the time of his death. He always took a deep interest in the Methodist church, and was perhaps the oldest member of the original Galt congregation. His aged partner in life still survives him, together with three daughters - Mrs. William Willard, Mrs. Walter Laidlaw, and Mrs. James Lammond. Although of a very quiet and retiring disposition Mr. Hambly was universally respected throughout the town. Galt Reporter Dec 12 1884 pg 1
