      John N. Sipes, for many years a prominent man in the district, died yesterday morning at his home in Blair. The deceased would have at obtained his 86th birthday today. A short time ago the deceased suffered a broken hip and this together with the shock was the cause of his death. For many years the late Mr. Sipes was in the livery business in Galt and upon leaving there he took up farming at Blair. During his long and colorful career he held many responsible positions. Many years ago he was an unsuccessful candidate in the provincial election, being the farmers' candidate For 25 years he was the township's assessor and for 52 years he was a member of the Galt Masonic lodge. Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Kreh of New Hamburg and two sons, Norman at home and Dr. Allan Sipes of New Hamburg to mourn his loss. His eldest son, Dr. M. Sipes of Seattle, predeceased him a year ago. The funeral will be held tomorrow, burial will take place in the Blair cemetery.

      WELLKNOWN BLAIR CITIZEN EXPIRES AT ADVANCED AGE

      John N. Sipes Native Of Beverly Township Was Former Galt Business Man

      BLAIR, Nov. 16. The death occurred in Blair on Tuesday morning of John N. Sipes in his 86th year. The late Mr. Sipes was born in Beverly township. When a young man he went to Galt where for a number of years he conducted a livery business in partnership with Joseph Stauffer. Upon retiring from this he moved to Blair where he has resided ever since. Deceased was a member of Galt Lodge A. F. and A. M. for 52 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. M. Kreh of New Hamburg and two sons, Dr. Allan Sipes of Vancouver and Norman of Blair. His oldest son, Dr. Melvin Sipes of Seattle, predeceased him one year ago. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Thursday afternoon. Interment was made in Blair cemetery.

      John N. Sipes, for many years a member of the Waterloo township council passed away early this morning at his home in Blair in his 86th year. Two months ago he suffered a broken hip which resulted in his fatal illness. For many years, the late Mr. Sipes had farmed at Blair. He was born in Sheffield, Beverley township, November 19, 1842. Politically, he was a Conservative and was a member of the Galt Lodge, A. F. and A. M. and of the Waterloo Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Galt. Besides his widow, one daughter, Mrs. M. Kreh, New Hamburg, and two sons, Norman at home and Dr. Allen Sipes of Vancouver, B. C. survive. An elder son, Dr. Melvin O. Sipes predeceased him one year in Seattle, Wash. The funeral, which will be held under Masonic auspices, will take place Thursday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from his late residence. Following services at the house interment will take place in Blair cemetery.
