    • KOWALIK, Kyla Cecile - Passed away suddenly, at home in New Hamburg, on Monday, November 6, 2006, as a result of bi-lateral pulmonary embolism, due to post knee surgery. Kyla was born in Kitchener 17 years ago on Monday, September 11, 1989. She was a Grade twelve student at Waterloo-Oxford D.S.S. Kyla actively pursued team sports at W-O, playing basketball, volleyball, soccer, hockey and track and field. She had played and officiated Wilmot Soccer and played hockey with the Plattsville Rage and the New Hamburg Huskies. Kyla was an eclectic reader, a fan of all music, an avid organizer and worked tirelessly in many areas of community service. She was a member of Zion United Church, New Hamburg. Dearly loved and sadly missed by parents, Rick and Cecily (Steeb) Kowalik and siblings, Carly and Reese. Sadly missed by her grand-parents, Benny Kowalik of Kitchener and Muriel and Richard Steeb of Cambridge. Lovingly remembered by aunts, uncles and cousins, Rose and Bob Karnowski (Kristopher, Thomas and Matthew) of Kitchener, Sonia and Michael Bergman of Severn Bridge, Heidi Steeb and Heidi Parsons of Waterloo. Kyla will be remembered by her extended family and friends of all ages. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Josephine Kowalik. Friends and relatives called at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden. Pastor Robert Thaler of-ficiated. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg. In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to MURF (Wilmot Township Multi Use Recreation Facility). Kyla contributed to the gift of life by giving her eyes and left leg bones for the benefit of many people still living, the family found peace in the knowledge of this.
