  • Notes
    • On the 21st of January, in McPherson Co., Kansas, Sister MARY BRUNDAGE, aged 62 years and 4 months; buried the 23rd. Services by John Evers in English from Heb. 11: 13-16, and by Henry Gartz in German from 2 Cor. 5: 11.

      Mother Brundage has been a sister of the Mennonite Church for more than 40 years. She lived in the bonds of matrimony 38 years, being a faithful wife, a kind and devoted mother. She leaves a husband and 4 children to mourn their loss; five children having preceded her to the spirit world. On Thursday she was taken with a congestive chill, suffering severe pain, which she bore with Christian fortitude until Friday morning, when she calmly fell asleep in Jesus. She did not expect to get well, having a presentiment of her death in a dream a few nights previous, in which it was told her that she would not live till Sunday. In her death the church has lost a faithful member, a bright and shining light, possessed of a meek and quiet spirit, and loved most by those who knew her best.

      An aged consort mourns his loss,
      But his loss is her gain;
      And he too soon may meet her
      On the bright and golden plain.
      Her children too will sorely grieve
      When of her death they hear;
      But if they only faithful prove
      They'll meet her over there.
      And in the church we miss her,
      When we together meet;
      We feel we have sustained a loss
      As we view her vacant seat.
      We need not mourn without a hope,
      For here she served the Lord,
      And now she's only gone before,
      To reap a rich reward.
      Oh may the Lord our souls sustain,
      While here the race we run,
      And always give us grace to say,
      Father, they will be done!
