- Noted Kitchener Clergyman Dies At Wooster Home
Well-known in church and political circles, Rev. Stanton Lautenschlager, 62, formerly of Kitchener, died suddenly at Wooster died suddenly at Wooster, Ohio, Hospital, yesterday. He had time. at Alma St. United Brethren, Church Mr. Lautenschlager from 1914-1919, also served as a missionary in China. He taught five years in a Chinese Christian High School and 15 years in Cheeloo University and Lingnan University.
Did Much Writing
When the war came, he and his family went to Free China, where he taught in the Christian University Centre, in Chengtu, West China. He also conducted a student tour to Manchuria, Korea and Japan before the war and wrote some magazine articles on student work in China and on China's war efforts, as well as a small book con "Communists, Cooperatives and Colleges in China." before Pearl Harbor he returned with his family to Canada. Since his return he has continued his mission work in Canada and the United States. Keenly interested in labor problems and modern political thought, which he studied at the University of Toronto, he was a C.C.F. candidate for North Waterloo in federal and provincial elections.

A student at K-W Collegiate he received the Mayor Hett Medal for elocution and the William Lyon Mackenzie King Medal for public speaking. He graduated in 1915 from Huntington College, Indiana, in 1919 from the University Michigan in modern history and political science. his term as pastor in Kitchener, he was professor at Huntington and pastor of the college church in 1919 and 1920. 1944 Huntington College awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Law and Humanities for world service. He also has an M. A. degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Law from a Chicago college.
Daughter Married Sunday
The Wilmot Township native, although in poor health for some time, participated in the wedding of his daughter, Mrs. James (Kathleen) Haun, in Wooster Sunday. are his wife, the former Sarah Herner; his mother, Mrs. Isaac Lautenschlager of Toronto; one son, Robert at home; one daughter, Mrs. Haun of Wooster; two brothers, Rev. Roy Lautenschlager, missionary in China, and Rev. Earl Lautenschlager of Toronto. His father, Isaac Lautenschlager, predeceased him six years ago.
