- LOWVILLE - Samuel Gingerich, 81, Croghan. R.D., retired farmer, died Friday afternoon at 5: 40 in the Lewis County General Hospital where he had been a patient since Aug. 18. He had been in failing health several years. The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 1 at his home and at 1: 30 in the Conservative Mennonite Church, Croghan with Rev. Richard Zehr, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Calling hours at his home will be at the callers convenience. The Virkler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the Croghan Conservative Mennonite Church Library Fund in care of Mrs. James Martin, Croghan, or to the Heart Fund. Mr. Gingerich is survived by a son. Beryl, Lowville, R.D.3; two daughters, Mrs. Sherwood (Joan) Zehr, Carthage, R.D. 2, and Mrs. Kenneth (Lila) Widrick, Croghan, R.D.I; two brothers, David, East Aurora, and Henry, New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada; three sisters, Mrs. Olive Cressman, Kitchener, Ont., Mrs. Saviera Lehman, Castorland, and Mrs. Fannie Moshier, Lititz, Pa.; 20 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Two sisters and three brothers died before him. Mr. Gingerich was born at Baden, Ont., June 13, 1895, son of Daniel and Fannie Lichti and came to the United States in 1914. In 1921 he married Barbara Lehman who died April 13, 1924. He married Melinda Martin in 1928. Mr. Gingerich purchased a farm on the Schnell road which he operated from 1923 to 1946 and then purchased the farm at Croghan which he operated until his retirement in 1960. He and his wife resided in a home adjacent to the farm. Mr. Gingerich was a member of the Croghan Conservative Mennonite Church.

Gingerich, Samuel, son of Daniel and Veronica (Lichti) Gingerich, was born in Baden, Ont., June 13, 1895; died at Lewis County General Hospital, Sept. 3, 1976; aged 81 y. On July 27, 1921, he was married to Barbara May Lehman, who preceded him in death on Apr. 13, 1924. On Sept, 7, 1926, he was married to Malinda Ellen Martin, who survives. Also surviving are 8 children (Beryl, Joan - Mrs. Sherwood Zehr, Lila - Mrs. Kenneth Widrick, David, Henry, Mrs. Olive Cressman, Mrs. Savieva Lehman, Mrs. Fannie Moshier), 20 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Croghan Conservative Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held in charge of Richard Zehr; interment in church cemetery.
