Notes |
- Photographers of the early days included Mr. Schneuker, George Seiler, A. S. Green, S. J. Yost, A. A. Perrin and H. A. Huber. Since their day, color photography and motion-picture cameras have come in. Among the prominent houses of today are the Binning Studio, the Denton Studio, and the Suffolk Studio.
Once a clairvoyant and her husband stationed themselves in Casper Heller's Market hotel. She claimed that when she went into a trance a number of celestial spirits surrounded her. Dr. Minchin heard of the claim and smiled at it. Approaching the husband, he suggested that they photograph the spirits. The man was willing. Dr. Minchin consulted with Mr. H. A. Huber.
On the evening before the day set for the photographing, a large chair in which the clair- voyant was to sit was placed in a central part of the room and around it four men with flour on their faces and in long white sheets, who were photographed. The next evening the woman was placed in the chair and the negative again exposed. Result: a lady and four spirits around her. Both husband and wife were delighted with the picture. He sent it to an American spiritualistic paper, which published it. New York papers copied the story. There was much excitement over it. Scientists, however, laughed at the claim. Reporters were sent here to interview the Doctor and from him learned that it was a practical joke.
