- LIVINGSTONE, JOHN MILTON A son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Livingstone, he obtained his preliminary education at Baden, Blyth and Tavistock, before entering the University of Toronto, where he graduated as gold medalist in 1911. He spent a year in New York doing postgraduate work, followed by a year in Pathology at the University of Toronto. He then commenced practice in Northern Ontario. He came to Ayr in 1915 and spent a year with Dr. Ward Woolner until his enlistment in the army. This was reported in the Galt Reporter of February 21, 1916.
Dr. John Livingstone of Ayr, who for the past year has been in partnership with Dr. Ward Woolner, has signed up with the Canadian Overseas Medical Corps, with the rank of Captain. The doctor will go into training at once, and expects to be on duty in the trenches in due course. Dr. Livingstone has made a number of staunch friends in Ayr, all of whom will join in wishing him a safe and successful career at the front.
He served in England and France with the 1st. Ganadian Machine Gun Battalion, returning home in 1919.
His move to Waterloo was mentioned in the Daily Telegraph of November 3, 1919, noting that he had purchased the residence of the late Dr. Bauman. The announcement of the opening of his office at 64 King St. N., Waterloo appeared on February 16, 1920.
He became assistant medical director of the Mutual Life Assurance Company, and shortly after became medical director, retiring in 1953.
He was involved in a multitude of activities apart from his insurance work. He served on the advisory board of the Kitchener- Waterloo Hospital, was a member of the board of directors of Freeport Hospital, and acted as Chairman of Federated Charities and as a member of the Waterloo Relief Board. He also served his turn on the executive of the North Waterloo Medical Society.
He was president in 1924 of the Young Men's Club of Waterloo, belonged to the Grand River Country Club, Kitchener Waterloo Kiwanis Club, and Westmount Golf and Country Club, in which he served as president. He was a charter and life member of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge, and a former member of the Board of Knox Presbyterian church. He was also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical fraternity.
He was outspoken, and able to discourse spontaneously and at length on any subject which came within his intersets.
He died on February 4, 1964, after a lengthy illness, being survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Mutual Life's Ex-Medical Chief Dies
Dr. John Milton Livingston, former medical director of the Mutual Life Assurance Company, died yesterday at Toronto General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He lived at 98 Queen St. N Dr. Livingston was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Livingston and spent his youth in Blyth, Baden and Tavistock.
He was a gold medalist when he was graduated from the University of Toronto in medicine in 1911 and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in the First World War.
Dr. Livingston was a general practitioner in Waterloo after the war until joining the Mutual Life staff. He retired as medical director in 1953. While there, he was chairman of the medical section of the American Life Convention.
Dr. Livingston was a former chairman of Federated Charities, and served on the Waterloo Relief Board. He was a past president of the Westmount Golf and Country Club and a charter and life member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the Knox Presbyterian Church board.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys O'Loughlin, a son, Robert S. of London, Ont a daughter, Mrs. John (Jean) Carruthers of Dundas, two brothers, David of Schomberg and W. E. (Bert) of Windsor; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ethel) Noll of Waterloo and Mrs. A. L. (Louise) Munro of London, Ont.; and three grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister predeceased him.
The body is at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, Waterloo, where the Waterloo Masonic Lodge will conduct a service at 7:30 pm. Thursday. Removal will be made to Knox Presbyterian Church at noon Friday, and the service will be conducted there at 2 p.m. by Rev. Dr. A. E. Bailey. Entombment will be in Woodland Mausoleum.
Donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.
