  • Notes
    • Roland Shoemaker leaves behind his partner and best friend of almost 50 years Sue Henson, his caring and wonderful brother and his family - George, his wife Helen and Tanya and Brendon. He is predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Ruth (Bohlender) Shoemaker.

Rol was granted his wish to die quickly and at home with "the Beloved" Sue Tuesday morning. He fought the cancers that ravaged his body but it was the lung tumours that won in the end.

We can't say enough about the care he received over the last four years from Dr. Khan, Dr. Greenspoon (Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton), Dr. Rangaswamy, Dr. Molckovsky and of course Dr. Joda Kuk and "Amanda" (Grand River Regional Cancer Centre) who were determined to keep him going. Nurses Lori and Si (Waterloo Wellington CCAC) and Dr. Stephen Keleher (K W & Area Hospice Palliative Care) are to be praised for their support in helping Rol and I get through everything.

Roland loved his cycling and participated in local fundraisers and The Ride for the Roses in Texas with his long time friend Robert Kohler (Renata). Most people would know him as the gardener at St. James Garden (Toronto) and Waterloo Park and downtown Waterloo. "Character" was mostly used by all those who knew him. He will be very sadly missed by many friends, coworkers, and familiar strangers.
