    • THE LATE ROBERT BAIRD

The funeral of the late Robert Baird was held at his home on Saturday afternoon where his pastor, Rev. Mr. Johnston, of the Chesterfield United Church, conducted the obsequies. Interment took place in the family plot on the farm where his parents and other members of the family buried. The lamentable death of Mr. Baird who died in the Stratford hospital as a result of the fatal accident at his home when while assisting in unloading grain several sheaves slipped off the mow and precipitated him head foremost onto the barn floor, cast a gloom over the community. Many sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to one who was highly thought of by his friends and neighbors. Many floral tributes were sent by sympathizing friends. The late Mr. Baird was in his 65th year and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baird, pioneer residents of Wilmot Township, south of New Hamburg. Following the death of his father the late Mr. Baird in partnership with his brother Addison, went extensively in the breeding of Jersey cattle and other purebred stock and became well known among the cattle breeders of the province. Their stock farm was honored with a visit by the Duke of Devonshire, during his term as Governor-General of Canada. In the death of Mr. Baird the community lost a valued and highly esteemed friend and neighbor. He was always of a cheerful and kindly disposition to all with whom he came in contact and his memory will be revered by a very large circle of friends. In religion he was a valued and staunch adherent of the Chesterfield United Church. The late Mr. Baird was married to Miss Rosabelle Bond, of Chesterfield, who is left to mourn his sad death with a family of seven children all at home, namely Margaret, Jean, Thomas, Faith, Robert, Isabelle and Agnes. He also leaves four brothers and two sisters, who are Mr. James Baird of Deckerville, Mich., Mr. William Baird of Woodstock, Dr. T.A. Baird of Bay City, Mich., Mr. Addison Baird, Wilmot, Mrs. Janet Poole and Mrs. Agnes Shearer of Deckerville, Mich. The pallbearers were Jacob Berlet, John Murray, Addison Crossman Jeremiah God, Mervin Facey and John Scott.
