ORTON, HENRY JR. (HARRY) was born in 1832 in Beeton, England, and came to Canada with his parents. He was educated at the Guelph schools and attended Trinity Medical College, graduating with honours. He took postgraduate work at Jefferson College in Philadelphia, receiving his degree in 1857.
He began to practice in Hespeler with his father, Henry. Sr. Their card appeared in the Hamburger Beobachter in 1855, and in the Berlin Telegraph in 1857, referring to themselves as Dr. Orton and Son.
After a short time he moved to Ancaster where he practised until 1882. In March of that year he was thrown from his buggy, and never recovered from his injuries. After his death a local paper said of him that "he was foremost in every public charity and philanthropic enterprise.
