- Son of Mr. and Mrs. James Payne Jr., of Fogo Harbor, Newfoundland; husband of Cora Payne, of 162, Rose Avenue, Toronto, Canada. Was an Anglican Minister. Graduated from Huron College in 1916, winning high honours in Divinity and Arts. Enlisted for active service shortly afterwards.
