    • Jacob R. Schmitt - Another of the early pioneers of Wilmot Township has been called to his eternal rest in the person of Jacob R. Schmitt who passed away at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. George Z. Lantz, on Wednesday, January 8th, at the ripe old age of 90 years, 11 months and 7 days. The deceased was born in Wilmot Township on the farm near Berlet's Corner where he farmed until he retired about 13 years ago, and which at present is owned by his son-in-law, Herbert Lantz. The deceased enjoyed good health until about two months ago. A twin brother, George R. Schmitt, of Plattsville, passed away a few years ago.

      The late Mr. Schmitt was married to Mary Hamel who predeceased him eight years ago. Their union was blessed with fourteen children of whom seven survive, namely, Mrs. Geo. Z. Lantz, Philipsburg, Mrs. Albert Mueller, Waterloo, Jacob, of Galt, Louis H., of Waterloo, Mrs. Herbert Lantz, Wilmot, Mrs. Norman Zimmerman, Wilmot, Gordon Schmitt, of Kitchener. One son George was killed in action in the Great War. Another son, John, died a year ago and two daughters, Ida and Lovina, predeceased him a few years ago, and the others died in infancy.
      The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon from the home of Mr. George Z. Lantz to the Philipsburg Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a faithful lifelong member. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. H.R. Mosig, of New Hamburg, and Rev. Mr. Hamester, of North Easthope, will be in charge of the funeral services.
