- Simon Andrew Ditner
Simon Andrew Ditner of St. Agatha died on Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He was 82.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignatius Ditner he was born in St. Agatha, Jan 5, 1887. He farmed at Petersburg for many years and retired to St. Agatha in October, 1953.
He served 19 years in municipal politics as reeve and deputy reeve of Wilmot Township, and was warden of Waterloo County in 1945. He was a member of various county boards and committees.
He was an honorary member of the Waterloo Knights of Columbus council. A member of St. Agatha RC Church, he was on the Council of Catholic Men.
Surviving are his wife, the former Christina Ruth, whom he married March 31, 1913, in Elmira; three sons, Clarence of St. Agatha, Walter of Waterloo Township and Simon of St. Agatha; four daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Anna) Kennedy and Mrs. Harry (Roselia) Knipfel, both of Petersburg, Sister Ruth at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, and Edna of Toronto; five brothers, Linus, Edward and William, all of St. Agatha, Ignatius of Kitchener and Louis of Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Mary) Straus of Kitchener and Mrs. Joseph (Carrie) Ruth of Elmira; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
