    • COLLINS, FRANCES

At an early hour on Sunday morning, May 27, 1945, at the home of her niece, Miss Frances Barrett of 30 Rose St. in Galt, last surviving member of one of the pioneer families of Puslinch Township. She would have completed her 99th year, if she lived until November. Born in the family homestead close to Puslinch Lake in 1846, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ann Collins, her early life was spent in that vicinity and she watched both Galt and Guelph grow from small villages. She was the last of a family of ten. In her young days, she was a dressmaker in Hespeler. She spent some years in the Canadian West and later lived for a time in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1925, she returned to Galt and since that time, has lived with her niece. She was remarkably alert and active for a woman of her years. Her death followed about a month's illness with a bronchial condition, although she had only been critically ill for a few days. She was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Galt. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held on Tuesday at 8: 45 from the residence of Miss Barrett to St. Patrick's Church for requiem mass at 9. Rev. R. A. Jordan officiated at the church and Rev. E. A. Doyle conducted the service at the cemetery. Interment in the family plot in Hespeler Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Leo Werstine, W. B. Scott, George Cooper, Ed. Cooper, John McFadyen and Robert Broomfield.
