Notes |
- Death of Mr. Anthony Kaiser
In recording the death of this gentleman, which took place at St. Agatha, Wilmot Township, on Sunday last, the Reporter feels that one of the strongest links binding the past to the present of Wilmot Township has been severed. Since our earliest recollection, Mr. Kaiser has always taken a prominent part in both township and county affairs, and even before the county was set apart he was one of the members of the old District Council. With our imperfect knowledge of the details of Mr. Kaiser's life, we find it impossible to speak of him as we could wish; but it lies within our province to say that he was one of nature's nobleman \endash honest, faithful and true. In church matters \endash in politics \endash in municipal life \endash in social life \endash Mr. Kaiser was ever to the front, and either as friend or opponent won the esteem of those with whom he came in contact. There was a manliness about him that appealed to the better part of human nature; and in all the strong political fights in which he has taken an active part \endash he was a keen conservative \endash we never heard of "Tone" Kaiser making an enemy. He has now crossed his hands at the call of the great conqueror; but as long as life lasts there will be many in the county of Waterloo who will ever have a kind word and thought for Anthony Kaiser.
Mr. Kaiser was 74 years of age at the time of his death. He leaves six sons and one daughter; all married and comfortably settled, the youngest one, Mr. Joseph Kaiser, being at present 1st Deputy-Reeve of his Township. His eldest son, Dr. A. Kaiser, holds a very prominent position in Detroit, having not only been for years an Alderman of that city, but being, one year at least, elected President of the Board. The funeral took place yesterday (Thursday) and was one of the largest ever held in the county, friends being present from Waterloo, Berlin, Galt, and every town and village within a radius of many miles.
