- EVANS, SMITH
On Thursday morning, March 6th 1919, at his home on concession 4, Township of Puslinch, aged 76 years, 26 days. Fifty years ago last January, he was united in marriage to Sarah Hammersley who, with three sons and three daughters, survives him: Robert H., at home; Mrs. Oswald Sorby of Guelph; Mrs. James Buchanan of Eramosa; Albert of Beaverton; William S. of Guelph; Isabel, at home. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. McLean of Toronto; and Mrs. Broughton of Bright. The funeral services were held from his residence on Saturday, March 8th, conducted by Rev. Green of Memorial Methodist Church, at which church Mr. Evans had been a regular attendant throughout his entire life. Interment was made in Hespeler Cemetery. Mr. Evans was one of the oldest pioneers in his locality, having been bornspending his entire life at his residence. His father, the late . . . . Evans came to this country years of age and settled on this same farm. The old homestead has, since that time, been handed down from generation to generation, now being owned by his eldest son, Robert. Mr. Evans was a most successful farmer and breeder of thoroughbred Oxford Down sheep, in which stock he took a very great interest, fitting them for competition at the larger provincial exhibitions in Ontario, always being very successful at winning prizes.
