    • Benjamin B. Baumann, "the second son of Christian M. Baumann, was born September 14th, 1846. He resides in Petoskey, Michigan. His first wife's name was Mary Ann Beashy, and after her decease he was married to Catharine Stauffer. He has a family of nine children, of which the eldest six are of the first wife. The names of children are Martha, Albert, Ira, Lyman, Lydia Ann, and Dorinda. Of second wife are Ode, Norman, and Carl."

      Benjamin B. Baumann, "the second son of Christian M. Baumann, was born September 14th, 1846. He is a jeweller and optician, and has his place of business in Petoskey, Michigan. He was first married to Mary Ann Beashy, with whom he had six children, His second wife is Catharine Stauffer with whom he has three children".

      Bowman, Benjamin B. - Born in Waterloo County, Ontario, September 14, 1846. Parents were Christian M. and Susanna Bowman. Raised on the farm and attended the common school.

      Converted at the age of twenty-two.

      Married to Mary Ann Beeshy in October, 1867, and after her death, to Katherine Stover. Nine children: Martha, Albert, Ira, Lydia, Lyman, Dorinda, Odie, Normal, and Karl, the last three being by the second marriage.

      Served as Annual Conference Secretary for several years; member of committee appointed to arrange for a church organ which was named the Gospel Banner and Evangehums Panier; member of committee to compile the first hymnal, published in English and German; member of the committee to frame the first discipline, and translator of the discipline from German into English. Edited the "Evangehums Panier" for sixteen months, beginning January, 1880.

      AGED PETOSKEY MERCHANT DIES

      BENJ. B. BOWMAN PASSES UNEXPECTEDLY TUESDAY AT FAMILY HOME

      In Jewelry Store Business Here Since 1883, , Retired, Year and Half Ago, Noted Churchman


      Benjamin B. Bowman, proprietor of the Bowman jewelry store on Howard street for forty-seven yeurs, passed away peacefully at his home on Grove street late Tuesday afternoon.

      He had been in failing health for several years but was in church Sunday morning and strolled aout the immediate neighborhood Monday, only being confined to his bed yesterday. He survived a severe illness just in time to greet his missionary daughter, Dorinda Bowman, when she returned on furlough from Syria in May of last year.

      Mr. Bowman was born near Heidelberg, Ontario, September 14, 1846. He learned the jewelry trade in his youth, married Mary Ann Beeshy in 1867 and started a store in Waterloo, Ontario.

      To this union were born six children: Mrs. Martha Dorothy Heilman of Saline, Mich.; Rev. Albert Bowman (who died in 1926); Ira (who passed away in 1902); Lyman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Lydia and Dorinda of Petoskey.

      Mr. Bowman moved with his family to Goshen, Indiana, and laltr to Nappanee, Indians, where his wife died. He came to Petorkey in March, 1883, married Catherine Stover of Markham, Ontarlo, who passed away in September, 1920, and to this union were born three sons: Norman of Richmond, Michigan; Karl of Detroit, and Odie of Petoskey.

      During the time that he operated his store here, from 1883 until about one year and a half ago when the Bowman-Herrick firm became his successor, he held the respect of the community as a business man and citizen. In private life he was a kind father and beloved neighbor.

      Mr. Bowman became a Christian In early manhood and united with the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church in Canada. He was a member of the local church of that danomination and served for years in the caspacity of class leader, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was also a delegate to their annual conference in southorn Mlchigan for a number of times.

      Ho was granted splendid use of all his faculties until the end of his useful life of eighty-six years and twenty days.

      The funeral will be held from The family home on Grove street at 10 o'lock on Friday morning.
