Notes |
- DICKSON, JANE (Nee Bogue)
Death of An Old Resident of Puslinch
Another of the older residents of Puslinch went over to the silent majority on February 4, 1890. This time it was Mrs. Thomas Dickson, near Mount Forest, who was called. She was, for over twenty-six years, a resident of Puslinch, living most of the time on the 1st concession. Although it is twenty-two(?) years since her husband, who survives her, with a family of seven sons and five daughters, left Puslinch for Normanby, near Mount Forest, still all the older settlers remember her well and their recollection of her is of a very favourable character indeed, as from her warm hearted and honest nature, she made at once friends of all who became acquainted with her. She could recall many interesting reminiscences of early life in Puslinch. She was a sister of Mrs. Adam Gerrie and consequently, an aunt of the late lamented "Dolly", whose sweet voice which charmed so many, is forever stilled. She lived to raise all her family, the youngest being 22 years of age. Three of her daughters reside here: Mrs. Dalgleish, Mrs. Bolduc and Mrs. Calvin Washbourne. Mrs. Dickson was born in the famous border town of Hawick. She died as she lived, a firm believer in the Christian religion. Pneumonia caused by la grippe was the primary cause of death. The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in the neighbourhood.
-Information from the death certificate: Born in Scotland. Died after 4 days with pneumonia. Buried in the Thomas Dickson Cemetery in Normanby Township, Grey County.
-Information from the Knox Presbyterian Church of Crieff baptism records: Children of Thomas Dickson and Scott Bogue, residing on lot 12 of the Gore of Puslinch were Christina (b. Apr. 16, 1856); William (b, 7/8/1858); Anne (b. Jan. 13, 1861); Thomas, born June 11, 1863.
