  • Notes
    • William Scott was born in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Parents are unknown. He was christened on August, 29, 1802. In about 1827 he married Anne Cairns. William was raised and educated in Scotland, and later learned the trade of woollen manufacturing. He eventuallly became the Manager of the then Wilson Brothers Woollen Mills. William emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1854, to Galt (now Cambridge), Waterloo County, Ontario. Anne's oldest sister Janet, her husband Andrew Dryden, and their children, had moved to the Galt region around 20 years earlier. The Scott's lived in the Galt area for three years while William carried on with the weaving trade. After three years, the family moved to Minto Township, Wellington County, where they were some of that township's earliest pioneers. Annie died Dec. 17, 1872, while William passed away on August 29, 1881. On the Canadian 1881 census, William is found to be living alone. Both William and Anne are buried at Harriston Cemetery, Minto Township, Wellington County. Their grandson, William Hood, son of their daugther Ann (Scott) Hood is buried beside them.
