Notes |
- PARKS, JOHN WESLEY
On Saturday evening, October 16, 1937, at his home in Hamilton, following a lengthy illness, in his 83rd year. He had been practically a life-long resident of the district, residing in the Hespeler vicinity until about five years ago, when he moved to Hamilton. He was born on the old Parks homestead at Puslinch Lake, now the site of Swastika Beach, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Parks. As a youth, he attended school in Puslinch Township. He came to Hespeler as a young man to enter the show business. A short time later, he entered the employ of the R. Forbes Co. , in the dyeing department, continuing with the firm for about fifty years, until his retirement ten years ago. An active member of the United Church, he served as teacher of the adult Bible class and as a member of the official board for many years. On his removal to Hamilton, he identified with Ryerson United Church there. Prominent in fraternal circles, he was a former noble grand of the Independent Order of Foresters order and master of New Hope Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Royal Arch Masons. Surviving are his wife, Melinda Margaret Hunsperger; two daughters, Mrs. Clayton Rudy of Hamilton; Mrs. Russell Cober of Dunnville; a sister, Mrs. William Hortop of Hespeler; and five grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, interment being made in Hespeler Cemetery. A service was conducted on Monday evening, at the home of his son-in-law, Clayton Rudy in Hamilton. Service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. M. Moyer of Hamilton at the Stager and Company Funeral Home. The masonic ceremony at the cemetery was in charge of W. M. Brother E. Midgley, V. M. Brother Keffer and W. Brother Arthur Young. Pallbearers: Alex Parks and Gordon Hortop of Hespeler; Ralph Parks and William Brown of Preston; William Allison of Galt; and A. McBeth of Hamilton.
