Notes |
- William Wingfield carried on the Cooper Street Shop from 1886 till he sold out in 1908 to John Bolton. Bolton was there only about a year and in 1909 he sold to Herbert L, Ott. In 1921, Mr. Ott started into the garage and service station business and his Uncle, Barney Goebel, took over the blacksmithing business on Cooper Street and continued till his death.

THE SALARY INSUFFICIENT
Policeman Ott, Recently Appointed, Resigns from the Force Salary of $500, Not Enough to Retain His Services
A meeting of the Police Commission was held in the Chief's office this morning to consider the resignation of Constable Ott, the young giant who joined the force about two months ago. The resignation was accepted, to go into effect at the end of this month. Policeman Ott's principal reason for resigning is because he considers the remuneration attached to the position insufficient. His present salary is $500. He purposes returning to his former vocation, that of a blacksmith.
During the short time that Constable Ott has been on the force, he has shown himself to be most efficient and capable officer. It is a regrettable fact that he has resigned his post. A successor will not be appointed until after Chief Gorman's return from New York, which will be in about ten days, and it is a question whether one will even then be appointed.
