Notes |
- Dr. Howard C. Amacher, 91, of Erie, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 14, 2007, after a life well lived. He was born in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada, on May 1, 1916, the son of the late Louis and Louise Amacher. He married his late wife Helen Wrigley Amacher on January 9, 1943, shortly after graduating from The University of Western Ontario School of Medicine. The couple moved to Erie in 1947 following Dr. Amacher's discharge from the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a 40 year member of Lake Shore Country Club and a life member of The Erie Maennerchor Club. He served as the Head of Family Medicine at Hamot Medical Center and was active at both Hamot and Saint Vincent Health Center's as an Attending Physician. He enjoyed working closely with the Sarah Reed Children's Center and most of Erie's nursing homes as a visiting physician. In 1988, Dr. Amacher published a small book that capsulized then 40 years of medical practice in Erie, ostensibly because "No One Ever Asked me which Aspirin I Recommend." At his retirement he continued to write, paint and enjoy the growth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dr. Amacher is survived by two daughters, Katherine M. Korff and her husband David R. of Fort Gratiot, Mich. and Dianne L. Amacher of Erie; granddaughter Kirsten H. Korff, Chelsea, Mich. and grandson Christopher W. Korff and his wife Michele, Redford, Mich. Two great grandchildren, Tyler and Laura, brought tremendous pleasure in the last few years. Friends are invited to call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Wednesday, July 18th, from 2 until 5 and 7 until 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul Columbarium, and friends are welcome to attend a Service of Celebration and Remembrance at The Cathedral, 133 West 6th Street, on Thursday, July 19th, at 7 p.m. The family will receive guests in the League Room of St. Paul's following the service. Memorials may be made to the Erie Community Foundation. Sign the guestbook at www.GoErie.com/obits
