Notes |
- Demise of Mrs. Robert Brown - The death occurred at Wolverton on Tuesday of Agnes Hogarth, relict of the late Robert Brown, in her 76th year, after a lingering illness with heart trouble. She was one of the earliest pioneers of this vicinity and was highly respected by a wide circle of friends. In religion she was Presbyterian, being a faithful member of Drumbo Church for a great number of years. Four brothers are left to mourn her loss, viz.: John Hogarth, Bright; William, Wolverton; James and Robert, on the homestead. The funeral took place on Friday to the Ayr Cemetery, and was largely attended, the services being in charge of Rev. Mr. Johnstone of Chesterfield. The pall-bearers were Messrs. D.J. Hogarth, Toronto, Dave Hogarth, Bright; W.W. Smith, Innerkip; N.W. Hogarth, Wolverton; John Melvin, Galt; Andrew Laidlaw, Drumbo. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, including gifts from the following: pillow from the family; sprays from Mr. and Mrs. John O'Neill, Toronto; the Otto family and Miss Munro, of Wolverton; the Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church, Drumbo; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Laidlaw, Galt; wreath from Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Smith, Innerkip. The friends who attended from a distance were D.J. Hogarth, Toronto; Mrs. Maggie Hogarth, Timmons; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Laidlaw, Mr. and Mrs. John Melvin, Mrs. J. Rounds, and Mr. Geo. Turnbull, Galt; Mrs. Jno. Matched, Innerkip; Mr. and Mrs. W. Robertson and son, and Mr. Fred Pheleman, St. Catherine's; Mrs. Mattie, Woodstock; Mr. Jas. Knox and sister, Miss Maggie, Chesterfield; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kyle, and Mrs. Bessie Kyle, Paris; Mr. Walter Kyle and Miss Scott, Plattsville.
