  • Notes
    • On the 16th of March, after a brief illness, at his residence in Elkhart Co., Ind., brother David Good, [deacon] aged 59 yrs., 11 mo., and 24 days.

It was my happy privilege to form a partial acquaintance with our departed brother, just in the evening of his life. Though prostrated by disease, and his remaining bodily strength fast failing, yet like all true Christians, he was resigned to the Master's will. Well might he rest contented, having stayed his confidence and dependence in One who is mighty.

His speedy removal is deeply felt by all, and more especially by the church in which he was for a number of years a faithful member and an active laborer. He was prompt and faithful in the discharge of the duties whith(sic) his office imposed upon him, and we confidently hope and believe that he now "rests from his labors"---"Let us also labor to enter into that rest.

      Description: BIRTH AND PARENTS

David B (presumably the initial of his mother's maiden name) Good was born in April 1804 according to his Obituary. He was probably born in Brecknock Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania where his mother died four years after his birth. David's father, Christian Good, was 25 and his mother, Maria Bauman, was 20. (During Census 1860, David reported that he was born in Pennsylvania. The death record of his son, John, reported that his father, David, was born in Pennsylvania.) Misinformation was posted in 2020 on the Waterloo Region Canada website. It stated that David was born in Wakarusa, Elkhart, Indiana.

      MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

He married Susanna Bauman (often spelled Bowman) in 1831 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. (This was not the same Susanna that was a child of his father by a second marriage. His father's second wife was Maria Horst.) David and Susanna Good had four children, including Christian, during their marriage.

      OCCUPATIONS

David became a Deacon during his marriage in Canada, and continued the ministry when he returned to the USA. His grandfather and great-grandfather had been Mennonite Ministers. David Good was also a Farmer.

      DEATH

David Good died in 1864, in Elkhart, Indiana, at the age of 59, according to his Obituary.

      BURIAL

David Good was buried in the Yellow Creek Cemetery in Elkhart, Indiana.
