    • ANDREW SCHARMAN - born July 20, 1826 at Hessen, Germany, married Magdalena Steinacher, born March 3, 1825, and emigrated to Canada in 1854. He acquired the Deed of a property of 3.43 acres on July 28, 1862 from Jacob Snyder, Jr., of Bloomingdale. It is situated on the east side of County road #13 in the hamlet known as Rosendahl (Rosendale).

      In 1860 Andrew Scharman built the log house, l 1/2 storey, and barn which are still in use today. The assessment list of 1863-1874 shows him to be 30 years of age, a weaver by trade, and the assessed value of property $150. He also owned a dog. For many years he worked as a day laborer on farms of the community. There were four children - Katherine born April 21, 1853 in Germany; Henry - born July 13, 1855; Magdalena - born Jan. 29, I857; Adam born January 7, 1866....

      Andrew Scharman died in 1892 and his widow continued to live here with son Adam and his wife Rebecca and three children - Alton-born Dec. 16, 1893; Ivan - buried at Bridgeport; Alberta - born Jan. 1, 1898 married a Mr. Keil, secondly Mr. E. Berner and resides in Kitchener; until 1900 when Adam moved to Centreville. Mrs. Scharman lived here alone until her death in 1902. They were Lutheran by faith and both Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Scharman are buried in the Free Church cemetery, Bridgeport. A granddaughter, Alberta, Mrs. E. Berner of Kitchener, remembers visiting here and picking the black cherries which were sold at the Berlin market.
