    • Celebrate Golden Wedding

      Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Merner, of Kitchener, former residents of New Hamburg, last Saturday, June 3rd, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage in the presence of their children and other relatives.

      Both are natives of New Hamburg. Mr. Merner is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Merner and his wife is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brodrecht. They were married here on June 3rd, 1883, by the late Rev. Chr. F. Spring, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and they had as their attendants, Miss Lavina Zimmerman (the late Mrs. Alex Merner) Kitchener and Mr. August Spring, now of Detroit.

      With the exception of a few years residence in Chicago, the family resided here until they moved to Kitchener twenty years ago.

      Their family consists of 5 sons and two daughters, Louis, of Norwalk, Ohio, Victor, Fred, Frank, Harold, Adele and Helen, all of Kitchener. Besides these other guests present were: Mrs. Merner's sister and brother, Mrs. McNally, of Brantford, and Mr. Wilfrid Brodrecht, of Detroit. Mr. Merner's sister, Mrs. Louis Zieger of Toledo, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Franke, of Kitchener.

      A family gathering was enjoyed at the home where the bride and groom of 50 years ago were made the recipient of a presentation. Later the company adjourned to the Chicodee Tea Rooms where a wedding dinner was served at six o'clock.
