_____________
MARTY, JOHN was born in Preston, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marty, in 1859. He was educated in the local schools preparatory to entering the teaching profession. He taught in Mitchell for several years before switching to medicine. He graduated from a Toronto University in 1895, and after a few months in New York, began to practice in New Hamburg. The Dumfries Reformer of August 13 referred to him as Dr. Marty of Mitchell, and said he would have his office at Andrich's Commercial Hotel.
During his 43 years of practice, he was for some years Medical Officer of Health, and served as coroner. He was secretary of the schoolboard for over 30 years, and a supporter of the Conservative party.
He did not attract the attentions of the newspapers, but the Kitchener Daily Record in his obituary on October 1, 1928 said of him.
"Beloved by all who knew him as a medical man, or as a private citizen or as both, Dr. Marty had won and held the confidence of his fellow citizens during that long period in which he gave valuable service not only as a doctor but as a public servant."
After an illness of some months duration, he died on October 1, 1928 and was survived by his widow, one son and one daughter, one son having been killed overseas in the First World War.

Dr. John Marty Succumbs After Lengthy Illness: Had Lived In Village 43 Years.
(Special to the Record)
NEW HAMBURG, Oct. 1-The citizens of this municipality and a wide circle of the county today mourn the death of a wellknown resident and professional man, Dr. John Marty, who for 43 years followed his profession in this place. Beloved by all who knew him as a medical man, or as a private citizen or as both, Dr. Marty had won and held the confidence of his fellow citizens during that long period in which he gave valuable service not only as a doctor but as a public servant.
The doctor, who passed away at 4 a.m. yesterday, had not been in good health for some months and his death was not unexpected, Shortly after the seriousness of his ailment which started in June became apparent he was forced to quit his extensive medical practice which he recently sold. During the early period of his illness he went to the United States and received. special treatment. Some time, however, after his return he was forced to take to his bed and he gradually sank.
Dr. Marty was born in 1859 in Preston and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marty. His early education consisted of the public and high school courses and training as a teacher. After teaching school for several years at Mitchel he attended the Canadian Medical School, Toronto, graduating from that institution in 1885 He immediately started to practice in New Hamburg where he soon built up an extensive practice. During the 43 years of his service in a professional way he won the highest confidence and greatest respect of his clientele, Altho well occupied with his professional duties thru- out the county found time to serve his municipality in many other ways. For many years he was a member of the public school board of this place. being secretary for over thirty years. He also was medical officer of health for a long term and up to the time of his death was a coroner.
The deceased was a member of the Masonic order and also of the Foresters. In politics he was a loyal Conservative. He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was wedded in 1887 to Matilda Ruby of New Hamburg. To the union were born four children, Gladys, (Mrs. Farley) Hamilton: Kenneth at home, Bernhardt, who after answering his country's call in 1917 died overseas and one child who died in infancy. The death of the son eleven years ago had continued as a shock to Dr. Marty who some years ago visited the young man's resting place place overseas. The deceased also leaves four sisters, and one brother, Mrs. Bruer of Clifford, Mrs. Valentine Stock of Toronto, formerly of Tavistock, Miss Sophia Marty, modern language teacher, and Miss Dr. A. E. Marty, B. E, of South America, and Fred Marty of Syracuse, N.Y.
