    • Former Waterloo Student Dies in Crash at Kingston

      Rev. Stanley Gartung. wife Three Others Is Car When It is Ditched

      NEW HAMBURG, Oct. 14.
      Word received here announcing the death of Rev. Stanley W W. Gartung aged 43, of Morrisburg, a native of this village, who was killed in a motor car crash on the Kingston highway, No. 2, on Tuesday afternoon, while en route to attend a Lutheran Church convention at Hamilton. Losing control of the car as it cleared a turn in the road three miles from Kingston, the machine went into the ditch, rolling over three times. Four women passengers, including his wife, were injured and taken to the hospital.

      Born at New Hamburg, November, 1893, Rev. Mr. Gartung received his education at the Baden, New Hamburg and Bremner schools. He later attended the Waterloo College and Seminary. In June, 1922, he married Clara Thiel at Kitchener. Ordained into the ministry at Bridgewater, N.S., in 1921, he was appointed pastor of a church at Midville, NS. Four years later he accepted a call to the Welland church Last December he assumed the pastorate at Morrisburg He was business manager of the church paper, The Canada Lutheran." His many Twin-City friends regret to learn of his untimely death

      Surviving are his widow, his mother, one son, Edgar Albert, and one daughter, Jean Caroline, one brother, John Ernst, Kitchener, and five sisters, Mrs. Henry Thering. New York City, Mrs. Robert Kilpatrick, Brampton, Mrs Wilbert Coverlay, Ivanhoe, Miss Mildred and Miss Gertrude Gartung both of Kitchener.

      A funeral service was held Thursday afternoon from the Lutheran Church at Morrisburg, of which he was pastor. The remains left Morrisburg Thursday evening and arrived in Kitchener to-day Friday at the residence of his brother, John E., 12 Rose Street. Private services will be held on Saturday at 2.30 o'clock followed by public. service at the First English Luth- eran Church at 3 pm. Rev. Dr. J. Reble president of the Canada Synod, and other officials of the Synod will be in charge. Entombment will take place in Woodland Mausoleum.
