      PRESTON, Dec. 5. A well-known respected citizen of Preston for 50 years, John Bettke, died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, Friday, at the age of 76 years. Mr. Bettke had been seriously ill for five weeks and confined to hospital for two weeks. Born in Elmira, he resided there until coming to Preston. He was married 54 years ago to Susan Witmer. Four years ago they marked their golden wedding anniversary. They resided in the same house on the corner of Union and Duke Streets for 38 years. A moulder by occupation, Mr. Bettke had been employed at Clare Bros., for 38 years. He was an honorary member of Royal Acanum Lodge. He was a Lutheran by faith. A keen sportsman, he was active and interested in various sports during his lifetime and was a particularly ardent fisherman. Surviving are his wife: three daughters, Mrs. Arno Bowman and Mrs. Gordon Giles, Preston and Mrs. Jack Poulton, Guelph; four sisters, Mrs. William Hopp of Kitchener: a brother, Nicholas Bettke, Kitchener, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral was held today at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home. Interment was in Park Lawn Cemetery.
